This is a great book for beginners; but, it is so, well written, that I just thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Mr. Wolfe's writing style reminds me of the words of advise from my 9th grade speech teacher, "Explain it, like you were explaining it to a Martian." No ambiguity in his writing, just clear logic/reason presented in a systematic manner that the average Joe can easily understand and follow. I didn't agree with everything he presented; but as he points out, part of what makes the best survival knife is your personal opinion (and, you know what opinions are like... everybody has one). >>>>>>>>>>> This is a great book for beginners, and a pleasure to read for serious knife junkies like me. I would like to see A.H. Wolfe write a more thorough/advanced book, perhaps getting into the mechanics/physics of the different blade grinds/styles (eg. Why is a scandi grind is better for wood craft? What is the advantage/disadvantage of a recurve blade?, etc.). He is a great communicator, which is rare these days. You could spend days searching Wikipedia and other sites to get this information, but the author does a great job of narrowing down the most important content and writes from a position of authority. It doesn't get into too much of the history of each blade type, but gives you practical knowledge and is a very fast read.
